Visit here for the 411 on the 420
Thanks for taking a look. As a Red Bank (R B) resident with history & experience who promotes 420 in R B, I welcome the newest town amenity.
We like you. Please stay for a visit and spend. Just like any new purchase, leave it in the car, locked & alarmed. Just remember, the special sauce is to be In You, Not On You.
I will be updating this page regularly as we make progress here in R B becoming a modest pot destination in New Jersey. Please return here and come visit Red Bank.
monmouth county news
Six stores open now, with six more coming, I am told by an owner here. Monmouth has a large land area, so I am only steadily reporting on these shops. I’ve been to Keyport, Englishtown and Freehold to see those shops. All different, they each have their good deals, distinct products and attractive spaces
new jersey news
February 2024 shows 102 dispensaries in our garden state, spread around New Jersey.
Flower pricing is the highest in the East - for now - though edibles variety is blowing up. New stores will grow markedly this year and next, as will production, reports say.
Students of the Massachusetts market - over 400 stores now -have seen this before.
MONMOUTH COUNTY NEWS
JULY ‘24
We have six rec stores so far: Zen Leaf Neptune; AYR Eatontown; Monteverde Red Bank; Primo Keyport; Scarlet Room Englishtown; NJ Leaf Freehold.
OCTOBER 16, 2024
Thanks to Deputy Mayor Kate Triggiano (who pushed thru the town approval opting IN to the cannabis program) we had a ribbon cutting today. See the photo of Kate and Councilmember Laura Jannone holding the ribbon with the store’s partners, who are 50% female.
Tax revenue is slated by the Council for the Parks & Recreation budget. Excellent idea!
OCTOBER 14, 2024
CANOPY CROSSROADS opened today ! Store # 3, last one to open, completing the set. We checked it out; they have products I’ve not seen, special merch, friendly team. Be sure to check it out and say hello to Mary Jane.
October 3, 2024
Canopy Crossroad at 9 West Street opens the week of October 16th. Third time is a charm ! We look forward to seeing this boutique outfit. Living local owners.
September 24, 2024
The folks trying to create a store at the old wreck of a River front gas station on 35 at the Bridge are likely suing the town for capping the dispenary licenses here at 3, demanding permission to open.
September 16, 2024
The Frosted Nug is now open! See fourth photo down. Friendly folks, nice interior, good cultural references inside.
LABOR DAY ‘24
Both stores are about to open. Canopy is tilt.
Frosted Nug slated for 16 September opening.
JULY 2024
‘Fantasy store’ # 5 is still trying to get through Planning, despite intense opposition from a neighbor just a few feet away.
The first tax revenue check from Monteverde came in to Red Bank’s coffers.
Canopy Crossroad and ‘Frosted Nug’ making good progress on their spaces with the mechanicals seemingly completed and interior finishes underway.
JUNE 2024
CANOPY CROSSROAD on West Street and the Frosted Nugg shop at 22 Bridge are putting the finishing touches on their stores and undergoing the agonizing and glacially-paced state, city and local inspections and reviews to finally open.
We look forward very much to the three-store cannabis district in the “upper west side” of Red Bank NJ rocking our town.
Check out the super local, women-owned Canopy Crossroad in 07701 and vicinity.
MAY 2024
Two stores have lined up to follow the first permitted three. One, at the gas station site at Rector and 35, said they’ll wait for a license behind the current stores. Two, at the laundromat site behind Strollo’s Lighthouse at Bridge & Rector, is battling a neighbor in front of the Planning Board while seeking ‘site approval’ . Our Mayor says no more stores for now. Rumors of a lawsuit if R B sticks to the 3 store limit.
Major milestone - Canopy Crossroads at 9 West has their building permit up, after a multi-level government gauntlet. Best wishes.
April 2024
While we await the next two stores, let us not forget DYNASTY at 160 Monmouth Street, one of the finest head shops in the County, I am reliably informed. Check it out.
They got popped for underage sales of legal products for adults other than THC in April.
As Prince sang, “you don’t have to watch DYNASTY to have an attitude” .
Two more store operators have asked Red Bank Planning for their permissions, even though the shop limit is three here. We hear they may sue the boro. A big mistake !
MARCH 2024
22 N Bridge ‘Frosted Nug’ has plywood up now, indicating major interior build progress.
9 West Canopy Crossroad, dealing with multiple state agencies for permissions, is almost there. I predict this is the boutique store.
IN NEW JERSERY WE ARE SEEING discerning customers travelling distances to get to finer stores flogging a boutique vibe. Like wine buyers back in the day.
FEBRUARY 2024
THE GOLDEN WEEK OF RED BAKE HISTORY
Monteverde now open for Adult Recreational. Another first for R B. Check their hours on the link. Limited this week.
Saturday the 24th 12-4pm is the Grand Opening. Be there or be square.
Link for more info - Monteverde 45 Bridge Avenue
I hope you saw the photo of the opening, presided over by the two owners and our first rate Mayor Billy Portman, Councilmember and Deputy Mayor Kate Triggiano, who rammed through the town acceptance of stores, and Councilmember Laura Jannone, the elected on our town Cannabis Board. They’ve done a terrific job so far and now have to deal with the fallout, if any. Traffic….
Canopy Crossroads, the weed store soon to be a cool interior build out, at 9 West Street here in red. A classic R B eyesore finally being restored. Paper up, permit coming soon.
The Frosted Nug at 22 Bridge/China Moon has begun their build out. Papered up and permit displayed ! Superb.
February 19th
Monteverde almost open for rec.
January 2024
We are Waiting: for Monteverde to go recreational and expand hours; Canopy Crossroad at 9 West to start building and The Frosted Nug in 22 N. Bridge to do the same.
The location application to Red Bank Planning for 156 West Front Street has been withdrawn in the face of Planning skepticism of the site workability.
Rumors - a second store appears to have been approved, and this one for recreational. We’ll know for sure when construction starts.
Christmas 2023
NJ.com reports that $763 million of THC product was sold in NJ from 10/1/22 to 9/30/23.
The Red Bank Planning Board signed off on the Rt. 35 South bridge location for another store, helping ensure we’ll get to three soon.
MONTEVERDE 45 BRIDGE MEDICAL IS OPEN, SEE HOURS of operation in the PHOTO.
The State Commission is rumored to be planning a huge increase in licenses next year. Santa Murphy, get flying to deliver please. Red Bank is waiting patiently.
December 4, 2023
I see that The Scarlet Room on Front Street is closing its doors after trying to sell the business. Scarlet had gone for a retail license but could not meet several of the town requirements. We will miss this place, the first herb smoking lounge in Red Bank. We salute the effort!
November 28, 2023
I’m waiting, I’m waiting…. The State Commission is understaffed and Buried in Legal… jeez…
Waited 50 years plus so let’s be patient? Yes
October 16, 2023
Last week, the R B City Council issued town licenses to three stores, the retail shop maximum set by ordinance.
9 West Street, 22 Bridge Avenue and 45 Bridge Avenue; Canopy Crossroads LC, The Frosted Nug and Monteverde NJ, respectively. Next move - The State ! Go, state, go.
October 3
Final timing of our first store is unclear, as the State approval is not predictable. Business note - looks like The Scarlet Reserve Room is unlikely to get a retail license so the business on Front Street is for sale.
September 5
The first meeting of the Cannabis Board was the week of 9/11. I learned that some of the applications are still incomplete.
Important to note that the town ordinance limit of 3 stores only in Red Bank is still in place and quite unlikely to change, I am reliably informed.
Side note - word is that Eatontown is so pleased with the revenue from the store at 59 Main Street they want another one.
Three stores are sited through the Red Bank (RB) Planning process as we speak, including the one shown here in the photo. At least two more are heading there. One of the stores may be ready to open this year if they finish the town process and get State approval to open as they are renovating before final approvals are in.
The town Cannabis Board was organized at the July 27th City Council meeting and will operate this fall it appears and move things along. It is not expected that the Board will block the progress to date. The town has to consider each applicant for land use even with the cap. Town doesn’t control which will get state approval.
Visit our first weed venue in R B - The Scarlet Reserve Room at 3 E. Front Street - where you can enjoy your roll in peace. CBD/Delta A/Cigars available. What else ? Comedy, poetry, fellowship and friendly service. BYOB !
The likely retail stores are all now located in the Bridge Avenue & West Front Street area, clustering them near roads to the west and north, near 14 restaurants. This area of Red Bank is the easiest commercial area in which to park. Each store will have some parking as well. The area restaurants could use the boost.
Note the sign above is gone and replaced with the name of the store. Was going to be medical but now is shooting for rec as well. Called Monteverde.
